How to choose a laser vision correction surgeon?
Choosing a surgeon to perform your vision correction procedure can be difficult. Choosing the right surgeon can make a significant difference with the ultimate quality of your vision.
Dr. Wang is a leader in the field of vision correction and prides himself on the technology used for surgical correction. If you are considering vision correction surgery, the following factors can help you with your decision:
-
How long has the surgeon been performing vision correction procedures?
A LASIK surgeon with years of experience, especially in the management of complications of refractive surgery is preferred to a surgeon with less experience.
-
Does your surgeon possess the skills to handle any complications that may arise?
Dr. Wang sees patients from all over the world who are having problems secondary to elective vision correction surgery.
-
Will your surgeon be involved with your pre-operative evaluation and available to you post-operatively?
Your surgeon should always be available to you. Drs Boerman, Sztipanovits, and Kugler are highly skilled in handling rare complications, but whenever patients request it, they see Dr. Wang.
-
Does your surgeon have access to the newest and best technology?
The Wang Vision Institute is home to the most advanced, safest and most reliable vision correction technology available, as well as a leading center for corneal topographic technology and wavefront aberrometry.
What questions should I ask when I am trying to identify the best surgeon for LASIK?
The most important thing to do when researching a potential surgeon to correct your vision (which most people consider the most valuable of all their 5 senses) is to find out the following about that surgeon:
-
Where did the surgeon receive his education and training?
(i.e., There are only four institutions that are considered the best for corneal surgeon training and education, and Dr. Wang has gone to 3 of those 4 institutions, as he shared with you in the email he sent you a couple days ago.).
-
Review the surgeon’s CV (resume) to find out their training, work history, accomplishments, awards, etc.
As you know, Dr. Wang has achieved many awards and “firsts”—both first in the state and first in the world--for procedures he has done, inventions he has created, research he has been involved with, sight restoration he has performed, etc.
-
What papers and books has the surgeon written/published in the field of corneal issues and surgeries/treatments for those issues?
As Dr. Wang shared with you, he has written and published numerous books and papers on a wide-range of corneal issues/diseases/injuries, treatments, procedures, technology, etc., many of which are textbooks studied by laser surgeons in training and referred to by corneal surgeons and specialists currently in practice.
Once you do this research, if you find that the surgeon you are considering has gone to the best schools and institutions for his/her education/training as Dr. Wang has, and that surgeon has a stellar resume with many accomplishments and awards, and has written/published numerous papers/books in the related field like Dr. Wang has, then you can probably entrust the care of your vision to that person. However, if he/she has NOT done these things, then you definitely should NOT entrust the care of your eyes to that person, especially with a vision correction surgery.
We hope you will consider coming to Dr. Wang for the care of your eyes, as we are confident you can not get better care anywhere in Tennessee, and you WILL get some of the best care in the WORLD…
