FDA regulated clinical research study for presbyopia

Wang Vision Cataract and LASIK Center, Nashville, Tennessee

Wang Vision Institute is conducting a US FDA regulated clinical research study on a new investigational eye surgery, scleral spacing procedure (SSP), to correct age-related loss of near vision (presbyopia). SSP is an out-patient procedure in which a surgeon creates a new space near the ciliary muscle, to possibly allow a more efficient contraction of the lens and muscles, to achieve better reading.

Enrolled participants receive medical examinations and procedures
at no cost as part of the study.

The criteria for participants of this US FDA-regulated study are:

  • between the ages of 50-60 years old
  • never had any previous eye surgeries
  • do not need to wear any correction for distance vision
  • must reside within 1 hour of the Wang Vision Institute

SSP Seminar Agenda:

  1. Description of presbyopia and theories behind it.
  2. Brief explanation of the surgical procedure and the intent of the surgery
  3. Discuss the length of the study, expectations from the subjects (required visits, consent, commitment to the study)
  4. Inform of initial requirements to become potential candidate
    1. In good general health
    2. No previous eye surgeries
    3. Between the ages of 50-60 years of age
    4. No distance prescription (Need reading glasses only)
  5. Question and answer period with Dr. Wang and current subjects who have had the surgery.
  6. Subject interested in more information and interested in pursuing the screening process are instructed to contact the study coordinator via e-mail.
